Description
The former brewery house, now part of the Newcastle University Works Department, dates from the mid-18th century and was raised by one storey in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has three storeys and five bays. There are steps leading up to a six-panelled door with an overlight, set in a central raised stone surround, although the pediment has been removed. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars. There are floor strings and a cornice below the second-floor windows, along with an interrupted band above the cornice. The building has end brick chimneys, which are truncated on the right side, and the roof is hipped on that side.
