Description
The Roman turret opposite number 800, Bishops House (Denton Hall), dates from around 122 A.D. It is built from sandstone and is a square turret incorporated into the Roman Wall. The turret features a doorway on the south side and stands up to six courses high. Inside, there is an internal platform located in the south-east corner. The wall it is attached to is of the 'broad wall' type. This structure is recognized as a scheduled ancient monument and is documented in E.B. Birley's work on the excavations of Hadrian's Wall west of Newcastle upon Tyne.
