Description

The building at 74-84 Grainger Street is a row of shops and houses, now shops, dating to circa 1836. It was likely designed by John Wardle for Richard Grainger. The facade is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a roof hidden on the left and Welsh slate on the right. The building is four storeys high, with attics except for the three bays on the left, encompassing 15 bays in total. The ground floor has been altered. The upper floors feature sash windows in plain reveals, some with glazing bars. A sill band runs along the second floor, and an entablature with a prominent cornice sits above it, topped by a cornice and blocking course. A mansard roof has been inserted to the five bays on the left, incorporating five large attic windows.
