Description

The statue of Joseph Cowen, located at the junction with Fenkle Street on the north side of Westgate Road in Newcastle upon Tyne, was erected in 1906. It is made of sandstone ashlar and bronze. The statue stands on a high, curved pedestal that is square in plan and features a step with bollards. The pedestal is inscribed with the words "JOSEPH COWEN/1829-1900/ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION 1906." The statue itself is a heroic-size representation of Cowen.
