Description

The building comprises a row of shops and houses, now offices, dating to around 1836 and designed by John Dobson for Richard Grainger. Constructed of sandstone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof, it stands four storeys high and extends over ten bays. The ground floor has been altered. Number 92 features a shop front dating to around 1900, characterised by slender pilasters and curved glass windows framing a recessed central glazed door with an overlight. The two-bay end pavilions are distinguished by Giant Corinthian pilasters, incorporating first-floor windows framed by flat Tuscan pilasters, an entablature, a sill string, and an architrave to the second-floor windows. The central six bays feature architraves to all windows, a second-floor sill string, and a second-floor entablature. The top storey of the pavilions incorporates pilasters, plain window reveals, and an arcaded balustrade above the pavilions. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars. Ridge brick chimneys are present. The building possesses group value due to its significance within the surrounding streetscape.
