Description
This building comprises a shop and warehouse, dating from 1907. It is located on the south side of Side in Newcastle upon Tyne. The ground floor is constructed of red granite, while the upper floors are of Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings, topped with an ashlar top floor. The roof is not visible. The building is four storeys high and five bays wide, with a yard entrance on the left side featuring a grille. The three central bays house the shop, with a recessed double entrance beneath an open pediment, flanked by side and overlights. Slender pilasters frame the shop windows, which have plain surrounds. Above, shallow two-storey canted bays are defined by stone surrounds and vertical strips linking the floors. These bays feature double keystones, with a swagged bracket on the central one within broken pediments. The slightly projecting outer bays have one window on each floor. A cornice marks the second floor. The top floor features tall, keyed architraves to the end sash windows, topped by segmental pediments. Diocletian windows are situated above the canted bays, and a prominent cornice runs above them. Rainwater heads are present; the one on the left reads 'RE/BUILT/1907', while the one on the right reads '168?'.
