Description

The Old Tyne Bridge is a Grade I listed structure located on the south side of Sandhill in Newcastle upon Tyne. This bridge dates back to medieval times and has undergone later modifications. It is constructed from sandstone and features two land arches, with part of one arch visible while the rest is hidden by later buildings. Access to the bridge is available from the cellar of the Watergate Buildings. The eastern section of the bridge includes five wide ribs, while the western section has a triple-chamfered arch with four closely spaced ribs. The Old Tyne Bridge is also recognized as a scheduled ancient monument.
