Description
Nos. 39 and 40 Sandhill is a house that was later converted into shops. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone some alterations. The building features a timber frame with painted render and a Welsh slate roof. It stands four storeys high, including attics, and has three bays. The late 19th-century shopfront is complemented by upper floors that showcase full-width mullioned-and-transomed windows, which include glazing bars and lower casements. These windows are framed by fluted pilasters and rest on long brackets that support moulded strings. All floors above the first are jettied, displaying rendered beam ends. The building also features a bargeboarded gabled three-light dormer. Inside, there is a panelled room on the first floor that includes a chimneypiece dated 1658.
