Description

The building at 10 Castle Stairs is a late 18th and early 19th century house, originally comprising three shops and houses. It is now used as a single dwelling. The exterior is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof. The front elevation has five storeys, reducing to three behind the staircase rise. The irregular facade has one bay at the front and three bays to the rear. The south-facing elevation, towards Sandhill, features a ground floor shop with a boarded wooden surround, and a door to the right. Above the shop is a sash window with glazing bars, over four storeys, set within a wedge stone lintel and projecting stone sill. A hipped roof tops this elevation. The left return wall features two shops with renewed sash windows and glazing bars.
