Description
No. 83 High Street is an early to mid-18th century house that has been significantly altered at the front. The exterior is now roughcast with a steeply pitched swept roof made of Welsh slate, featuring ridge and end chimneys. Above the two central bays, there is a deep bracketed eaves soffit. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and has four wide windows. The attic windows are tripartite casements with glazing bars, cornices, and pediments. The side bays are full-height Regency bows, around which the entablature continues without brackets. The first-floor sash windows have glazing bars and are curved in plan, framed by pilasters. The central bays feature single sashes with eared architraves, cornices, and pediments. There is an early 20th-century glazed door with a quasi-classical surround in the third bay. It is possible that the entire front may be a clever Edwardian pastiche. A rainwater head is located at the back, marked TDR 1729. The property has long rear extensions, including a stable building that has been converted into cottages, although part of it has been demolished.
