Description

The War Memorial in Stockton on Tees, designed by architect H V Lanchester, was completed in 1923 and is located at the southwest corner of the churchyard. It is made of Portland stone and features bronze panels and ornamentation. The memorial is rectangular in shape, with large niches on the north and south sides, each flanked by colonnaded exedrae, and the cornice is returned above them. It stands on a tall base, and the framing pilasters on the sides are adorned with lion masks. At the top, there is a sarcophagus with fluted sides, decorated with trophies and wreaths on each side, and it is surmounted by a bronze torch and a stone pedestal.
