Description

No. 16 Church Road is a mid-18th century brick terrace house that has been altered. The building stands three storeys high and features five windows with new flush framed glazing bar sashes. The 20th-century alterations include a heavy egg and dart cornice and an enriched central pediment, as well as scrolled keys on the second-floor lintels and blocks on the second-floor cills, along with a cill course. The first-floor windows have architraves that are eaved on top and feature rusticated blocks on the sides. The central window has a segmental pediment, while the ground floor windows have bolection architraves with keystones, all of which are made of stone.

A notable feature of the house is the distinguished mid to late 18th-century doorcase, which includes enriched pilasters with Corinthian capitals and an enriched entablature that contains a vase of fruit and flowers. The door itself is an eight-panel design, and there are railings to a blocked area. The east side of the building has a pebbledash finish, while the north side and the rear are rendered.

On the first floor, there are two three-light windows; the left-hand window is a Venetian style, and the right window is a slightly pointed triplet with the center window being larger. The roof is double-pitched with raised verges and kneelers, covered with slate and featuring a double ridge. There are two front ridge chimney stacks and two off-ridge stacks at the rear, all with a string course and stone capping.
