Description
This is a substantial terrace of 1837-40, known as Victoria Terrace, situated on Norton Road, Stockton on Tees, and extending to include No. 40 Garbutt Street. The terrace comprises numbers 60 to 66 and 68 to 82, and is constructed of brick with brick flat arches, stone cill strings, a moulded cornice and blocking course. The windows are sash windows with cambered heads, typically five per house, except for numbers 74 and 75, which form a pair with three windows each. Only No. 78 retains glazing bars. Projecting Tuscan porticos feature six-panelled doors with reveals and rectangular lights above the doors, with Nos 78 and 82 having traceried detailing. The porticos of Nos 78-82 also have a blocking course. Nos 80 to 82 have been painted, and No. 80 has a two-window return to Major Street. Dormers are present to the rear elevation, predominantly Yorkshire sash windows. The terrace is set back from Norton Road by gardens, with panelled piers marking the edge of the pavement.
