Description

This is a late 18th-century cottage located on the north side of High Street, Skelton. Built of dressed sandstone, it has a clay pantile roof with a stone ridge, gable copings, block kneelers, and end stacks; the stack on the right has been reduced. The cottage is two storeys high with two windows. The main entrance is at the rear. The windows have renewed sashes with leaded lights and keyed lintels. A renewed painted sundial, dated 1787, is positioned between the first-floor windows. Inside, the ground floor retains original beamed ceilings and a dogleg staircase with turned balusters. A single-storey wing attached to the right and a pent roofed extension at the rear are not considered to be of architectural interest.
