Description
The war memorial, located approximately 5 meters south-west of the Church of St. Peter, was erected around 1920 and designed by sculptor J.A.O. Connell. It is made of concrete and features a rockfaced base that supports a rood, along with standing figures of the Virgin Mary and St. John, and a kneeling figure of St. Mary Magdalene. On the south face of the base, there is a panel inscribed with the words: "SWEET JESUS HAVE MERCY ON THE SOULS OF ALL FROM ST. PETER'S MISSION, SOUTH BANK, WHO FOUGHT OR FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918, ALSO ON THE SUBSCRIBERS." The memorial is included for its group value.
