Description
The lychgate and boundary wall, located approximately 35 meters north of Christ Church on Coatham Road in Redcar, were built in 1854 by Coe and Godwin. The structure features a dressed sandstone wall with a plinth, complemented by Bath stone dressings. The timber lychgate has a roof covered with shaped Welsh slates. Architectural details of the lychgate include a chamfered plinth, braced coupled posts on wallplates, and support ties for the single-framed gableted roof, which is sprocketed at the eaves. Curved intermediate braces extend to the eaves, and the gablets are adorned with trefoils. The double-leaf gates also feature trefoil panels. The boundary wall has a chamfered plinth and coping, curving outward from the lychgate, and includes buttresses with offsets on the north side. The return walls at the east and west ends are not considered of special interest. This structure is included for its group value.
