Description
Clarendon House, located at No. 151 on High Street East, is a house dating from around 1824. It features a mid-19th century third storey, a mid to late 19th century rear extension, and rebuilt end stacks. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with a header bond used for the bay window. The left side is rendered, while the rear is painted brick. The roof is covered with late 20th century concrete tiles.
The house stands three storeys high and has two windows. On the left side, there is a renewed door and overlight set within a timber doorcase that has pilasters and an entablature, along with panelled reveals. To the right, there is a three-storey bay window with quadrant angles. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and timber architraves, and there are painted sill bands. The left return features a tall round-headed stair window situated below the first-floor window, with sashes that also have glazing bars and painted sills. A mid-20th century window has been inserted on the left side.
At the rear, there is a two-storey lean-to extension that has a row of five sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, while a single-storey rear extension is not of special interest. The area railings at the front of the property have ornate intermediate bars with foliate finials. Clarendon House occupies an important corner site that is prominent in views along High Street East.
