Description

North Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge situated at the entrance to the driveway of Wilton Castle. It is constructed of white "Pease" brick with fishscale clay tile roofs and terracotta ridge crestings featuring trefoil piercings. The lodge is single-storey with an attic, comprising three bays. A central boarded door is situated under a porch with a hipped roof. The windows are characterised by three pointed lights with chamfered wood mullions, each set under a moulded cornice and featuring painted sills. A carved wood fascia board, adorned with spear pendants, runs along the eaves. Two gabled dormers are present, each containing a two-light window, carved bargeboards, and spike finials. A corniced ridge stack rises from the centre of the roof. The two-bay right return features a canted oriel window on brackets with a hipped roof, positioned beneath a three-light window in the gable; both elements have chamfered mullions, and are decorated with similar barge boards. Carved bargeboards decorate the returns. A mid-20th century casement window has been inserted into the gable of the left return. A late-20th century single-storey rear extension is not of special architectural interest.
