Description

The Hutton tombstone, dated 1776, is located approximately 13 meters south-west of the tower of the Old Church of All Saints in Skelton. This rectangular sandstone slab measures about 132 centimeters high, 79 centimeters wide, and 10 centimeters thick. It features a moulded border surrounding the inscription. At the head of the stone, there is a curved panel with text on a scroll held by cherubs with horns, which is flanked by flowers. The angles at the head of the stone are inscribed with "W.N." in the left angle and "Sculp." in the right angle. The memorial inscription includes a poignant verse that reflects the sentiments of loss and hope for reunion.
