Description
The Aln, formerly known as Elliot House, is a house from the mid-18th century located on the east side of Northumberland Street in Alnmouth. The front of the building is made of squared stone, while the other elevations are constructed from roughly-squared stone. It features a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks and has a T-plan layout. The house has two storeys plus attics and includes four windows. There is a chamfered plinth, and the right-of-centre door has been renewed and is situated under a gabled stone hood supported by shaped corbels. This door is flanked by shop fronts that have fluted pilasters and dentil cornices. The first floor has 4-pane sash windows, and the low attic has openings with 8-pane short sashes, except for one 8-pane casement. The gables are coped, and the right end stack is made of old brick while the left end stack has been rebuilt on an older base. The rear wing features an open-pedimented gable and a small-paned sash window for the staircase.
