Description

The Schooner Hotel is an inn built in the early 19th century, with extensions added in the later 19th century. The main part of the building is constructed from tooled squared stone, while the extension is rendered and both sections are whitewashed with cut dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features two stacks that have been rebuilt in yellow brick.

The hotel stands three storeys high and has a total of eight bays, with five bays on the older left part and three bays on the extension to the right. The left section includes 20th-century half-glazed doors set in an old segmental-headed arch at the right end, along with a chamfered segmental-headed carriage arch at the left end, which has a keystone featuring the Percy crescent. This section also has two 4-pane sash windows, five 12-pane sashes on the first floor, and four 9-pane short sashes above. All windows have slightly projecting sills that are painted black.

The extension to the right has a symmetrical front with a central 6-panel door that has a plain overlight, framed in a stop-chamfered surround. It also features 4-pane sashes set within architraves. The gables are coped, and the left end stack has chamfered coping, while the ridge and right end stacks have been rebuilt on their original bases. The rear wings of the building have been altered and are not considered of special interest.
