Description
This description is for a pair of cross bases located 9 metres south of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Edlingham. One of the cross bases is likely from before the Conquest, while the other dates to the medieval period. Both bases are made of cut sandstone. The earlier base is a well-crafted tapering block measuring 0.4 by 0.5 metres and standing 0.6 metres high, featuring a rectangular socket on top. The second base to the south is 0.4 metres square, has an off-centre rectangular socket, and a stepped edge, which is now nearly level with the ground.
