Description

The wellhead, located approximately 100 yards west of Lilburn Tower, dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone resting on a sandstone plinth. The wellhead features a wrought iron pulley arch and has a circular base made up of 16 heart-shaped segments that create a scalloped edge. The octagonal structure is adorned with grotesque figures at the corners and shields in scrolled panels between them, one of which displays a mitre. An egg-and-dart moulding decorates the cornice, and the design may have Italian influences.
