Description

The drinking fountain, located 40 metres east of the Post Office, dates from around 1880 and is made of granite. It features an arched slab with a dynamic life-size sculpture of a dolphin set on a broad rocky base. A tap is positioned in the dolphin's mouth, and an iron cup is attached by a chain. Above the dolphin, there is an inscription that reads: 'FVTVRI HAVD IMMEMOR OEVI', which translates to 'Not unmindful of future generations'. This fountain is part of Sir Charles Trevelyan's remodelling of the village, and the Trevelyan arms are depicted with dolphin supporters.
