Description
The Clavering Memorial, located 1 yard south of the Church of St. Mary, is a memorial cross dating from 1881. It is likely the work of Dunn and Hanson, dedicated to Edward John Clavering of Callaly Castle. The memorial is made of sandstone and features a large square base with multi-moulded sides, which includes a long inscription in Gothic lettering.
The lower stage of the cross is octagonal and rises to a Celtic-style wheel head atop a square shaft. Both the face of the cross and the shaft are elaborately carved with religious symbols, angels, and floral panels.
