Description

The sunken garden walls and pergolas, located 120 metres south-west of Blagdon Hall, are part of Sir Edwin Lutyen's garden design created between 1926 and 1938. The walls are constructed of brick in English Garden Wall Bond, using a pattern of one and three. The pergolas are made of cut stone and wood. The garden layout features a double-apsed rectangle with extruded angles and includes a flight of steps at the north-east corner. Pergolas are positioned near the north end of each side, designed as distyle in antis with paired rear square piers and stout timber lintels.
