Description
The Old Boathouse, located to the east of the north end of the White Bridge, is a boathouse that likely dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick, rubble, and squared tooled stone. The building features two adjacent semi-subterranean chambers with brick barrel vaults that open to the south. The rubble masonry above and between the arches is designed for picturesque effect. Each chamber has a raised doorway at the rear that leads to a stone stairway ascending to the surface. This structure may have been built around the time the lake was formed in 1783.
