Description

The terrace and walk with ornamental features to the south and west of Blagdon Hall is a Grade II listed structure, part of Sir Edwin Lutyen's garden scheme created between 1926 and 1938. This area includes paved terraces, gates and gatepiers, dwarf walls, urns, statues, steps, a balustrade, and obelisks, constructed from cut stone, brick, lead, and iron. At the eastern end, circular gatepiers with fluted caps support wrought-iron double gates featuring spike standards, which are set in front of a patterned pavement bordered by an outer pier topped with a ball finial and a domed glinter. The terrace extends westward, with dwarf walls connecting the central section of the house to two classical lead urns positioned on panelled stone plinths. Steps with side walls descend to the terrace, which has radial brick-paved sections. Similar steps lead to a lower terrace, culminating in a pair of obelisks with a balustrade in between and flanking steps. A carved shell is featured on the external wall face below the balustrade.
