Description

The canal with basin urns and statue, located to the south of Blagdon Hall, is a notable feature of Sir Edwin Lutyens' garden scheme, created between 1926 and 1938. The design incorporates a statue by Lough, dated 1863. The canal is positioned at right angles to the house and measures 580 feet long and approximately 30 feet wide. It has stone coping that is level with the lawn and features flanking urns at the mid-length, which are set on moulded pedestals and topped with bouquets. At the southern end of the canal, there is a circular basin that includes a central statue of Milo, which stands on a square ashlar plinth.
