Farmbuildings To West Of Harwood Shield Farmhouse

The farm buildings located to the west of Harwood Shield Farmhouse date from the late 18th century to early 19th century and consist of several structures. They are constructed from coursed, roughly-cut stone with dressings that are tooled and margined in the northern range. The buildings form a layout around a yard that is open at the northeast corner, with a link range connecting to the farmhouse at the southeast corner.

The barn situated to the south of the yard features an arcade of four round-headed arches, although the arch on the right has been blocked by a later west range. The single-storey west range includes two boarded doors set in stone surrounds. The northern range has two shouldered openings and boarded double doors at the rear, all framed in alternating-block surrounds.

On the south elevation, the barn is to the left with its four round-headed arches, while the gable end of the eastern range and the link range, which is divided into two parts, are to the right. The taller right part has boarded double doors and a 12-pane sash window, with smaller windows positioned above. The rear (north) elevation of the link range features an external stair leading to a boarded door, along with two shouldered-arched cart entrances to the right.
