Description

Freelands is a house built in 1817, with a substantial front addition dating to around 1840. It is ashlar-built, with panelled side piers, a moulded first-floor cill course, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course featuring fluted panels over the corner piers and a raised central panel. The sash windows have glazing bars and moulded architraves. A large, projecting central porch features rusticated piers, a modillion cornice, an open balustrade with an arcaded design, corner dies, and windows on either side. The round-headed doorway has a 12-panel door. The roof is hipped and slate-covered. The original rear portion of the house is three storeys tall with three windows, and a smaller two-storey, three-window cottage projects to the northwest, with a first-floor cill string and rendered exterior. The rear section has late-glazed sash windows. Inside the main house, a front room on the right features an imposing carved chimney piece, and there are rich mouldings throughout.
