Description

EDLINGHAM ABBERWICK MILL NU 11 SW NU 123140 9/97 Mill and adjacent stable/granary GV II

Mill and stable/granary. Mill early C19, stable/granary C18 remodelled early C19. Mill squared tooled stone, stable/granary rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings. Welsh slate roofs. Mill has boarded double doors in east end; south wall shows boarded door, boarded loft window and blocked round- arched opening for head goit; on north wall a boarded door with timber lintel and several blocked openings; west end has blocked window and boarded window above. Hip-ended roof.

Stable/granary adjoins north-east corner of mill; south elevation shows stable door and 4 renewed 1st floor casements, all in alternating-block surrounds, and boarded double doors in C20 opening. Coped gables. On east end an external stone stair to boarded door in alternating-block surround.

Interior: Mill has collared-rafter roof without any longitudinal members.

Asbestos-roofed sheds on north side of stable/granary are not of special interest.
