Description

The Bell and White headstones, located 17 metres east of the Church of St. Mungo in Simonburn, are two notable sandstone memorials. The first headstone, dedicated to William Bell, dates from 1824 and stands 1.75 metres tall. It features a shaped top and a sunk panel with a relief of an urn and swags. The large oval panel on the reverse is inscribed with a poignant verse reflecting on life and death.

The second headstone, commemorating Mary White, dates from 1818 and is 1.5 metres tall. It also has a shaped top and a raised moulded border, with an inscription within a raised oval panel that is topped by a relief swag.
