Description
This is a barn, likely built in the late 18th century, located 30 metres south-east of Fold Cottage in Acomb Village. The structure is made of coursed roughly-squared stone, featuring a tooled-and-margined stone porch and dressings, but it currently has no roof covering. The west elevation facing the yard is two storeys high and consists of five bays. There are three steps leading up to a central doorway situated in a shallow gabled porch, with a small window positioned above it. The barn has slit vents, except for the left end bay, which contains a boarded door framed by an alternating-block surround. To the far right, there is a small pent outhouse with a stone slate roof. The right side of the barn displays slit vents and pigeon holes with alighting bands in the gables. The rear elevation also features a similar shallow porch. Although the roofing material was removed at the time of the survey, the roof timbers remain intact.
