Description

The ice house, dating from the early 19th century, is located on the west side of a path, 50 metres south-east of St. Aidan's Chapel. It is constructed from rough-faced stone with rock-faced dressings, although much of the exterior is hidden by vegetation. A boarded door provides access to an antechamber featuring a segmental vault. A second door leads through a thicker wall into a square chamber, which has a floor at a significantly lower level and was partly flooded at the time of the survey.
