Description
Shawwell Farmhouse is a house built in the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and dressings, while the extension features tooled-and-margined dressings. It has a stone slate roof, except for the extension, which is covered with Welsh slates. The original house is two storeys high and has three bays. There are double steps leading up to a central door that has been renewed, and the windows are 16-pane sash types, all set within irregular-block surrounds. The gables have raised reverse-stepped coping and stepped end stacks. The one-bay extension to the left also has 16-pane sash windows and a coped gable with a stepped stack. On the rear elevation, there are two 12-pane Yorkshire sash windows on the first floor, and a six-panel door leading into the extension features an ornate 19th-century cast iron knocker.
