Description

Butler's Cottage and the house to the right are a pair of houses built in the mid-18th century, with later alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed from rubble with cut and tooled quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof, except for the stone slates on the east bay. The left end and ridge stacks are made of old brick, while the right end stack is white brick.

The buildings are two storeys high, with Butler's Cottage featuring three bays and the house to the right having four bays, along with a one-storey bay on the right. Butler's Cottage has a central glazed door framed by a corniced raised stone surround and 16-pane sash windows with cut lintels. The left gable is coped with moulded kneelers. The left side of the cottage displays an elaborate 19th-century Gothic fireplace, which has been re-set as a doorcase, featuring a four-centred arch and panel tracery. There is a two-bay rear wing with a central renewed glazed door in an alternating-block surround and 12-pane sash windows.

The house to the right has a renewed glazed door in a chamfered surround, located under a 20th-century porch in the second bay, with a French window to the left. It features 12- and 16-pane sash windows, some of which have been renewed. The single-storey bay on the far right has a four-light mullioned window with lead-latticed glazing, and there is a similar three-light window on the right return.
