Wall And Gateway Adjoining East End Of Chapel

The wall and gateway adjoining the east end of the chapel at Dilston Hall date back to 1616 and are associated with Francis and Jane Radcliffe, as indicated by the inscription FR 1616 IR. The gateway is constructed from squared stone, while the wall is made of roughly-coursed large rubble. It features a segmental arch with a narrow chamfer and a pointed keystone, set on moulded imposts. Above the arch is a cornice and parapet that includes a leaded inscription, along with chamfered coping and a square moulded finial on the right, with the bases of additional finials at the center and left. The wall to the left has double-chamfered coping with roll moulding, connecting to the chapel. This archway served as the main entrance to the courtyard of the early 17th-century Dilston Hall.
