Description
This is a planned farm building, dating from the early 19th century. It was later converted into Morpeth Hunt Kennels in 1889. The building is constructed of squared and tooled stone with slate roofs and is laid out in an E-shaped plan, with the central section set back from the rear. The front elevation facing the road features a central loose box with a blocked segmental arch and a hipped roof. Behind this is a two-storey section with a gable containing an open pediment, flanked by yard walls with gabled coping and piers. To the left, a single-storey range to the rear features two segmental-headed arches, with a boarded door flanked by small windows to the left; a mounting block is on the right. The right yard has a two-storey range of five bays with two segmental-headed arches and part-slatted windows above. The fifth bay and the range to the right of the yard were raised to two storeys in the late 19th century, and have part-slatted windows on the first floor. An end door to the road has a pitching door with a hoist above. The rear elevation has a central block, originally a threshing barn, with a large corniced ridge stack and a segmental arch in the left return. A circular paved area to the right indicates the site of a gin-gang. To the left is a single-storey range, and to the far right, a kennelman's house (listed separately). The roofs are hipped.
