Description
The property is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th or early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and again in the 19th century, and restored around 1990. It’s constructed of random rubble with stone dressings. The roof is covered in Welsh slate with raised coped gables. A brick stack sits on the ridge, and another on the right gable, along with a taller ashlar wall stack to the kitchen wing. Raised quoins are visible on the left gable end.
The house is two storeys high with three irregular bays. All openings feature raised stone surrounds and windows are mainly 12-pane sashes, though some are 20th century replacements. The main front has a central doorway with a 20th-century plank door, flanked by 12-pane windows, with three similar windows above. The rear facade has a plank doorway and a single 12-pane window to the right of it, with a 20th-century French window beyond. Above are three further 12-pane windows. A lower, single-story kitchen wing extends to the west, featuring a plank door and two 2-light casements on its gable front, with two similar windows above, all with flush stone lintels.
The interior is notable for its very thick walls; the front wall, the right gable end and one internal wall measure 3 to 4 feet in thickness, while the rear wall and the left end of the house are approximately 33 inches thick. An early to mid-18th-century staircase features turned balusters with square knops and a moulded, ramped handrail.
