Description

The Loreto Guest House, previously a presbytery for St. Ninian’s Roman Catholic church, dates from the late 18th century. The front of the building is constructed of ashlar, while the rear is roughcast with ashlar dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof. The house is two storeys plus a basement, with three storeys to the rear.

The main front block consists of three bays by two, with two wings projecting to the rear to create a U-shaped plan. Raised quoins are visible. A flight of steps with flanking railings leads to a six-panelled front door flanked by side lights and surmounted by a broad, elliptical fanlight incorporating Adam-style tracery. A projecting, pedimented bay sits in the centre of the facade. The windows are 12-pane sash windows. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the building. The roof is hipped and features two ridge stacks. The rear of the building contains tripartite windows. The interior has not been inspected.
