Garden Walls And Buildings Circa 30 Yards North West Of Thirlings

The garden walls and buildings located approximately 30 yards north-west of Thirlings date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of random rubble and brick, topped with pantiled roofs.

The complex includes ranges of buildings on the north and east sides, with walls and gateways on the west and south sides. The north range, which was formerly a farm building, features a two-storey central section flanked by single-storey wings. Originally, it had seven segmental arches, five of which are now blocked. There is a later external brick staircase leading to a boarded door on the first floor, along with small square window openings, one of which serves as a dovecote. The single-storey section on the left has a stable-type door, while the right section has boarded double doors. The gabled roof has an upper doorway that is treated as a raking dormer, and the gables display tumbled-in brickwork.

The east range was originally single-storey cottages but is now used as stores. It features one 12-pane window and one 9-pane window, along with a gabled roof.

The west range has a rubble wall that has been patched with old brick and includes a boarded and battened door set within a Tudor-arched surround. The south wall has had its central section reduced in height in the 20th century and features two castellated segmental-arched entrances.

A 20th-century shed built against the west wall is not of special interest.
