Description
The Turk's Head Inn is an inn that was rebuilt in 1874 after a fire, with a rear wing dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. The main part of the building is constructed from tooled stone with a rock-faced plinth and cut dressings, while the rear wing is made of large rubble. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, except for the end part of the rear wing, which has pantiles. The building has two storeys plus attics and features a layout of two bays, one bay, and two bays.
Architectural details include a chamfered plinth and sill bands. The gabled outer sections, which consist of two bays each, have diamond-rusticated end pilasters and feature 4-pane sash windows set in moulded raised stone surrounds. There is a smaller central attic window in the gable. The slightly-recessed centre of the building has half-glazed double doors beneath a segmental arch, which is supported by broach-stopped chamfered jambs, moulded imposts, rusticated voussoirs, and a carved keystone that bears the date on its rear face. Above the doors is a 4-pane sash window, and the building has a raised shaped parapet on moulded corbels, featuring a central bust of a Turk.
The left end and ridge stacks are stepped and corniced, while the right end stack has been heightened with a 20th-century brick top. The rear right wing has been refenestrated in the 19th century, and its end gable displays a pigeon hole with an alighting band and raised reverse-stepped coping. A small rendered extension to the rear left is not considered of special interest.
