Description
Alexandra House is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with a shop front and half dormers added in the later 19th century. The ground floor is made of squared stone, while the upper parts are rendered and colour-washed. The roof is slate, previously thatch, and covered with a waterproof coating. The left chimney stack was heightened in the 20th century with brick.
The building has two storeys plus attics and features three irregular bays. There is a left-of-centre six-panel door set in a chamfered surround. To the left of the door is a sash window in a stone surround, and to the right is a shop front that includes a central half-glazed door, wooden pilasters, and a cornice. The first floor has sash windows in stone surrounds, with lintels that have keystones flanked by sunk panels. In the gabled half dormers, there are four-pane attic casements. The right gable is coped on moulded kneelers, and there are end stacks, with the right stack being stepped and corniced.
There is a contemporary wing at the rear right of the house.
