Description
This is a pre-Conquest cross located 10 metres south of the parish church door in Kirkhaugh, Knaresdale. It is made of sandstone and features a shaft and cross head that are cut from a single stone, with a slightly 'hammerhead' shape. There is no visible carving or ornamentation on the cross. For many years, it served as a gatepost, but it was re-set in the late 19th century on a stepped base made of rock-faced and margined stone.
