Description

Old Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with a refronting that occurred in the mid-19th century. The rear section and the attached wall were built in the early 19th century. The building features ashlar and random rubble construction, topped with a graduated Lakeland slate roof. It has a double-span roof with a long wing extending to the rear.

The façade is two storeys high and consists of three bays. There is a central stone porch with a stone pent roof, and flanking it are 4-light bay windows with hollow-chamfered mullions and stone pent roofs. On the first floor, there are three 3-light mullioned windows. The roof is steeply pitched with gables, flat coping, kneelers, and banded end stacks.

The returns of the building have 12-pane sash windows. The rear section, constructed of fine early 19th-century ashlar, features 12-pane sashes with plain reveals and projecting sills. The rear wing includes one tripartite sash and additional 12-pane sashes. The gable end of the rear wing has a segmental carriage arch and boarded double doors.

Inside, the farmhouse has a staircase with stick balusters, along with 6-panel doors and shutters. The wall attached to the west side is L-shaped, approximately 20 feet long and 12 feet high. It features a central elliptical carriage arch, and to the right, there is a boarded door with a re-set segmental pediment above the lintel, which has a moulded surround, foliage trails, and a shield inscribed with "MER" for Errington Reed, dated MDCC.
