Description
Kennels Cottage, located 200 metres northwest of Lemmington Branch, is a cottage that likely dates from the late 18th century and was extended in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with cut quoins and dressings, topped with a purple Scottish slate roof featuring a 20th-century brick stack, while the extension has Lakeland slates.
The south elevation is one storey high and consists of three bays on the left and two on the right. The left part, from the 18th century, has 4-pane casement windows set in stone surrounds, with one window located in a former door opening. Each end of this section features an embattled screen wall. The taller right part from the late 19th century has similar window styles, with a coped right gable that includes a stepped-and-corniced end stack. The left return displays a 4-pane casement window with a blind circular opening above it. The rear elevation of the 19th-century extension features a gabled dormer with small-paned casements and ornamental bargeboards.
An adjacent wooden shed to the north is not of special interest. The cottage is included for its group value with Lemmington Branch.
