Description

East Unthank Farmhouse, cottage, and adjoining outbuilding date from the early 19th century, with the cottage built around 1840. The farmhouse is fronted with tooled and margined ashlar, while the barn is constructed of coursed rubble and the cottage of squared rubble, all featuring cut dressing and slate roofs. The farmhouse is two storeys high with three symmetrical bays. It has a central altered panelled door and 12-pane sash windows in moulded boxes, each with slightly projecting sills. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers and there are stepped brick stacks.

To the right, the barn has various doorways and a central external stone stair leading to a boarded door with alternating jambs, flanked by slit vents. Above this door is a second tier of slit vents, each with a chamfered surround, cut from a single stone. The cottage, located at the far right, is one storey and has two irregular bays. It features an off-centre boarded door under a 2-pane overlight, flanked by paired 8-pane casements, with a smaller window to the right. The right end of the cottage has a contemporary lean-to with a smaller boarded door. All openings have stone surrounds with lintels and sills that extend beyond the line of the jambs, each jamb featuring a single horizontal block at mid-height. The building has a lobby-entrance plan with a single stepped and corniced stack aligned with the doorway. The rear elevation displays a contemporary outshut.
