Description

High Swinhope Shield Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of large rubble with ashlar dressings and features reverse stepped gables and a stone slate roof. The front of the building has two storeys and two windows, with an off-centre 20th-century gabled porch. The windows were originally mullioned but have been altered. To the right, there are blocked single-light windows with chamfered surrounds on both floors. At the right end, there is one surviving wave-moulded jamb of a doorway that leads into a part of the house that has since been removed. The left gable has a corniced stone stack, while the right gable has an altered stack. The right return of the building has been largely rebuilt, while the left return features two single-light windows with chamfered surrounds in the attic. The rear elevation displays a similar first-floor window and another ground-floor window, of which only the head remains.
