Description

This range of farm buildings, located 10 meters northeast of Underbank Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was remodeled as a farm building in the 19th century. The structure is built of rubble with large, roughly-shaped quoins and stone dressings, topped with stone slate roofs.

The elevation facing the farmyard is divided into three parts. The left section is a barn, likely from the 19th century, featuring a large cart entrance with a timber lintel. The central section is an earlier bastle, two stories high with four irregular bays, which has been largely rebuilt. It includes two boarded doors: the left door has jambs and a re-set lintel with double roll moulding, inscribed with what appears to be "TB? 1691," while the right door has chamfered jambs and a re-set roll-moulded lintel. To the left of this section is a small four-pane window with a re-set window head above it, inscribed with "GT. SEP : XX." The right section is another bastle, also two stories and two bays wide, featuring a boarded door with a two-pane overlight in a tall chamfered surround, a small boarded window to the right, and a chamfered window with an old iron bar above.

The right return of the building has an external stair leading to an inserted door, with a blocked chamfered attic loop above and to the left. The rear elevation shows that the left section, the second bastle, has a small loop at ground level, a blocked chamfered window on the first floor, and a two-light chamfered mullioned window with diamond glazing, along with a blocked chamfered attic window above. The central section has two chamfered loops at ground level, while the wall above is obscured by ivy. A 20th-century barn conceals the right section.

The interior has been significantly altered.
